how it works

Transfer a domain name in 4 steps

Domain transfers follow a standard process that works the same way at every registrar.

  1. 01

    Unlock the domain

At your current registrar, turn off the transfer lock on your domain.

  2. 02

    Get the EPP code

Request the authorization code, also called the EPP or auth code. It proves you are the registrant.

  3. 03

    Start the transfer at Upkyo

Enter your domain and its EPP code at checkout. We send the request to the registry.

  4. 04

    Approve the request

Confirm the transfer if you receive an approval email. You can track progress from your client area.

What to check before a domain transfer

A few quick checks keep your transfer from being rejected.

  • The domain is unlocked at your current registrar
  • You have a valid EPP code
  • The registrant email address is current and you can access it
  • The domain is not expired or in a grace period
  • There is no open dispute on the domain
  • Any waiting period some extensions require after registration or renewal has passed

  • Your email keeps arriving
  • You remain the registrant from start to finish
  • You can then move your website to Upkyo with free migration

FAQ

Domain transfer questions

What customers ask most often before they transfer.

What is an EPP code?

It's a unique authorization code issued by your current registrar. It confirms that the domain's registrant approves the transfer.

Where do I find my transfer code?

In your current registrar's client area, usually in the domain settings. If you can't find it, ask their support team.

Why was my domain transfer rejected?

The most common reasons are a domain that's still locked, a wrong EPP code, or a domain registered or renewed too recently. Some extensions block transfers for 60 days afterward.

Will my website go down during the transfer?

No, as long as the nameservers stay the same. The transfer changes the registrar, not where your domain points.

Who can help if I get stuck?

Our human support team is available 24/7 and can walk you through each step, by email at support@upkyo.com or from your client area.
